Overview

OVERVIEW OF POSITION:
Under general guidance, manages clinical research relevant for ESSC autism services and conducts pertinent research projects. Mentors and supervises research interns and/or other ESSC autism associates who are conducting research, with the goal of disseminating the findings through various means, and supports the continuing education and licensing efforts of autism clinicians, as directed.

 

PhD preferred. Candidates are eligible to teach at a university while holding their position here. Must be familiar with APA guidelines of writing and have experience writing scientific papers.

 

Starting salary range $85,000 - 90,000 per year.

Responsibilities

Researcher Functions
1. Manages research projects under the supervision of a Primary Investigator.
2. Develops research ideas, designs studies, and outlines study details in research proposals.
3. Completes and assists associates with the completion of HSIRB applications for research projects.
4. Assists with preparation of manuscripts for completed research projects to submit for publication in peer reviewed journals.
5. Disseminate research findings at conferences and internal ESSC events as workshops, symposia, posters, or other outlets.
6. Assists all ESSC departments and VPs with data collection and analysis for organizational initiatives.
7. Attends weekly lab meetings with supervisor and quarterly lab meetings with research team.
8. Manages at least one research division subsystem consisting of an internal process related to research initiatives.
9. Oversees and manages the research activities of a team of researchers and leads the steps to implement project.
10. Conducts literature searches on specific topics presented by ESSC autism leadership team and summarizes the findings as a report or presentation
11. Submits research grant applications for ESSC related research projects
12. Develops, implements, and reports on procedures for associates to meet external supervision training requirements as Board Certified Behavior Analysts and other clinical licenses. Coordinates external training options focused on continued education units for department associates of specific disciplines.
13. Conducts assessments or provide clinical services.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: 

  • Master’s degree or PhD in behavior analysis, psychology, or related field. 
  • BCBA or CCC-SLP

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have completed and defended a thesis or published a research paper in a peer-reviewed journal.
  • A minimum of two years working in the clinical setting conducting developmental assessments for individuals/children with ASD and/or other developmental disabilities.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Familiar with implementing the Vineland, VB-MAPP, and other assessments
  • Familiar with single case and between group research designs
  • Familiar with inferential statistics methodologies and statistics software
  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge of Federal guidelines for clinical research
  • SPSS or other statistical software knowledge
  • Ability to stay up to date with federal guidelines for research with human subjects
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, Outlook)
  • Ability to use various databases to conduct literature reviews
  • Knowledge of community resources and agencies that serve children
  • Familiar with funding source plan design. Contract administration, and grant funded program regulations
  • Knowledge of grant funding processes, procedures, and techniques
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local, standards, and guidelines, as they relate to the delivery of behavioral health services
  • Ability to perform moderately complex financial analysis and customized reporting
  • Ability to communicate effectively, through oral and written skills, with all levels of staff and the general public; and maintain customer service orientation and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Ability to interpret and implement policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to acquire an understanding of organization and department policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
  • Strong administrative, leadership, and team management skills; able to develop highly successful teams, foster teamwork, effective monitoring, motivating, training, and mentoring of staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a variety of individuals and groups, take initiative, prioritize; excellent time management, creative-thinking, decision-making, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic environment and learn department-specific technology and computer systems.
  • Ability to pass a post-offer physical examination and a TB test.
  • Ability to provide proof of Measles, Pertussis, COVID-19, and Flu vaccines or doctor exemption for immunizations.
  • Ability to travel locally with incumbent’s own reliable transportation; maintain driving record in compliance with Transportation Safety Standards; maintain auto insurance and vehicle registration.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a criminal record/fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation, per Easterseals of Southern California and/or program requirements.
  • Must pass all drug testing required by ESSC.
