Starting Pay Range: $29.33 - 36.54/hr.

 

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops and ensures implementation of health and nutrition services.  Plans and implements high quality and developmentally appropriate experiences for enrolled families in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards, policies and procedures and Easterseals Southern California (ESSC) standards of conduct.
  • Maintains required health and nutrition documentation in a tracking system compliant to the Head Start Performance Standards and the USDA Child Care Food Program. Prepares tracking and billing documentation for USDA Food Program.
  • Coordinates training and support for pregnant woman, prenatal and parent education, breast-feeding information and other health and nutrition resources. Identifies and incorporates resources into the program. Supports the active involvement of parents and community members on the Health Services Advisory Committee.
  • Coordinates the provision of Family Plan activities with other organizations, agencies or individuals involved in providing services to the family.  Represents ESSC and provide presentations at assigned community groups and forums.
  • Meets regularly with Coordinators, Site Director, parents, partners and other programs for effective planning and implementation of health and nutrition activities. Collaborates with Coordinators and Site Director to plan and implement annual training program for area of responsibility.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in health, nutrition, or related field from an accredited university AND 3+ years of related experience working with the health and nutrition of young children.
  • If you do not have a current/valid Food Handler Certificate at the time of hire, you will be required to obtain one within 60 days of your start date. The cost of training/certification will be reimbursed by Easterseals.
  • Must possess and maintain current pediatric (infant/toddler) CPR and first aid certificate.
  • Prior to beginning work and on an annual basis thereafter, must complete California-mandated Child Abuse Reporter Training as well as Pesticide Safety Training (per Healthy Schools Act).
  • Ability to properly interpret and implement regulations, policies and procedures of the California Department of Education, Funding Terms and Conditions (Title 5), Child Development Division, Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing (Title 22), ESSC and of Head Start and Early Head Start Performance Standards (Title 5,17 and 22).
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for early childhood health and nutrition services.
  • Training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable and supportive relationships with diverse families of very young children; must develop knowledge of infant and toddler development, safety issues in infant and toddler child care settings (i.e., reducing the risk of SIDS).
  • Ability to communicate effectively, through oral and written skills, and work cooperatively with a variety of individuals and groups. Must relate well to children and their families.  Must maintain positive affect.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, plan, establish and meet timelines. Demonstrated ability to coordinate and implement school site programs.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office applications (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Skype).
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.  Ability to lift 40 lbs. continuously.  Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and squat.  Must possess fine manual dexterity. Ability to push, pull, talk/hear, with near and far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field of vision.
  • Ability to pass a post-offer physical examination and a TB test.
  • Ability to provide any/all current immunizations as required by the State of California for child development centers and staff.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a criminal record/fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation per Easterseals Southern California and/or program requirements. Must have sex offender index clearance.
  • Ability to travel locally, maintain driving record in compliance with Transportation Safety Standards, maintain proper auto insurance and vehicle registration.
